Chin Surgery

Chin surgery, or mentoplasty, is a surgical operation to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or by reduction surgery on the bone. Plastic surgery can often be performed on the lower jaw line and chin area to improve proportions of the face and to increase confidence and self-esteem.

Some solutions involve moving bone from the jaw forward in an operation called a mentoplasty or genioplasty. Alternatively, shaped silicone implants can be used to project the chin out more. Conversely, bone can be removed to reduce an overly projecting chin. Furthermore, modifications to the upper and/or lower jaw may be advised in order to improve chewing dynamics and occlusion—or how the teeth fit together. These procedures may range from simple to very complex.

Dr. Toriumi may recommend chin surgery or procedures to a patient having a rhinoplasty in order to achieve better facial proportions and balance, as the size of the chin can greatly affect the perceived size of the nose.

Dr. Toriumi will examine you and note your concerns. Then he will work with you and explain what you can expect from this procedure and his recommended course of action.
